Within the Cape Range National Park in Exmouth lies the Shothole Canyon to be explored. During oil exploration shotholes were left as result of explosive charges. This resulted in exposure of colourful rock layers within the canyon walls.
Access to the area is 14km south of Exmouth following the Minilya Rd with a turn off onto a well maintained gravel road. During heavy rains the area maybe closed.
This area is a natural habitat of native fauna and in springtime hosts a display of flowers. During the warmer months bush roses bring colour to the area.
For walkers the approximately 6km return gravel trail winds its way round to a point where the canyon can be viewed. There is very minimal shade and exposure to the sun is an issue in the summer months. All food and water needs to be carried in with all rubbish carried out. Definitely no open fires can be lit.
If touring through Exmouth this short trail is worth the stroll.
Until next yarn, happy hiking
